Workin' for the Weekend!

This week was a lot harder to work through because it was short and because I had a great big present coming on Friday-- my husband!!!! I hate being away from him for weeks at a time. Granted we did just see each other Memorial Day weekend but it wasn't long enough. So I was glad to only be apart from him for three days this time around.

Work was productive this week regardless of it being short. We finished painting the upstairs loft (where I'll be working) and got it carpeted. My desk is now up there and we are starting to arrange furniture. We even get to go to Ikea sometime this week and pick out decorations. I'm excited about that! Here are some pics to enjoy.

Julie's desk. Before the remodel.

The pics with the green wall are after the remodel. Jeff wanted an "Apple Green" wall so this is what he got. It reminds me more like the sparkling foam food you feed fish, but what can I do. I'm new so I just go with it. So ta-da! This is my desk and space as of now. Definitely want to get some cute organizers and things for my desk so hopefully Ikea will have what I'm looking for. I'm really excited to decorate! The owners have been really great about getting me my own space and making me feel at home. Thanks Jeff and Julie!

After the week at work, Derek got into town on Friday around 6pm!! We changed and then drove to my cousins reception at the Presidential Club in Salt Lake. It was a great reception. Very low key and casual. The food was good and the program was short so we spent most of the time talking with family and hanging out with my cousins. It was good seeing everyone again. Here are some pics from it.

After the reception, Derek and I booked it out and drove as fast as we could to the Gateway Mall so that we could make the 9:40 showing of.....THE AVENGERS! We've been waiting this whole time to go see it together and we finally got the chance! It was SO GOOD! We loved how each character showed their own strength and we loved the part when the Hulk threw Loki back and forth. Overall great flick, we'd love to go see it again!

Saturday we got up early, taped my toe (after I took a chunk out of it at work, hauling junk down from the loft in sandals..ya bad idea) and dressed in our running clothes! Because Saturday, we ran our first ever 5k!! It was the Dirty Dash in Midway, Utah and our start time was for noon. But we soon found out that the traffic was horrendous getting there so we pushed it back to 12:20 pm. It was SO. MUDDY. (Obviously, right?) But this was muddier than I expected. We first ran up a mud slick hill, then dove and slid down a mud slide right into a mud filled pool, climbed a rope wall, jumped over and slid under actual walls, waded through literally pools of mud and dirt and grass, jumped over hay bails, jumped over long tubs while being spray with ice cold hose water, army crawled through long construction tubes and finished it all off with a huge blue slip and slide. It was a BLAST! We were slipping and sliding and grabbing on to whoever all over the place! Everyone was laughing and talking the whole time and the "run" part of it wasn't bad at all. There were some hills but about every 20 yards or so we would stop to go over the next mud obstacle. So it was a lot of stop and go. Nevertheless we finished in about 2 hours and we completed 3.5 miles. I can't wait to do it again next year! You can check out pics from the race on my Facebook page here.

After we showered like 5 times and scrubbed the mud off of us, we met up with the family again and had a big potluck dinner at Rachelle and Jeff's. Rachelle made BBQ chicken sandwiches and everyone else brought a salad or side. We stuffed our selves full of leftover wedding reception food and BBQ chicken and of course pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. (I think Karen wins the record for most ate though ;) We sat outside the entire time in the warm summer air and just talked. It was awesome. People gradually left around 8pm but my Auntie Kim, Karen and Ross and Lacey and obviously me, Derek, Jeff and Rachelle ended up staying till about 10-11pm just talking about life and everything in between. I love late night chats like that, especially with family. Overall, great summer night. Derek and I even finished the night watching two Office episodes in bed. We're trying to catch up since the season ended.

Today we slept in (woot woot) and went to church at 1pm. Came home, ate a big lunch and cleaned up from last night. Sadly Derek has to work tomorrow and so do I, so we kissed good-bye once again and parted ways. I cry almost every time we have to leave each other but I know I'll be seeing him again hopefully soon, in two weeks for a family camping trip. So there is light at the end of the tunnel.

And on other news, my parents are MOVING TO UTAH this week! Their moving truck is fully loaded and leaving I think Tuesday. My parents are driving out shortly after and will be in Orem by FRIDAY! I can't believe it! My childhood home is officially sold and no longer ours. I will never be returning to the house I grew up in for 19 years. So so sad. But so happy too because my parents will finally be closer to us and their family. It's a good change for us and an even better one for them. We are all happy this day has finally arrived and that we get to see our parents much more often. Change is a good thing.

Well another week ahead of us all--have a great one! :)
